Drilling through 3 feet of concrete inside a 60-inch sanitary manhole is not a standard setup. The wall thickness alone rules out most crews - you need the right rig, the right extensions, and someone who knows exactly what they're doing before the bit ever touches concrete.

Here's what made this one interesting. We ran two drill extensions to reach the full depth through the manhole wall. That's not something you just throw together on site. It takes a properly staged setup, a solid anchor point, and a machine that can handle the torque without losing alignment. The Hilti core drill mounted tight to the wall kept everything dialed in from start to finish.

We also formed the invert as part of the core drilling scope. That means the crew coming in behind us had no mud work waiting for them - the penetration was ready to go. That kind of coordination saves real time on a job like this. Less rework, fewer trades waiting on each other, and a cleaner handoff overall.

Tight spaces like this - deep in an excavated pit with sheet piling on both sides - are exactly where precision matters most. A sloppy core leaves gaps, requires patching, and creates headaches down the line. A clean core through concrete that thick, at the right elevation, is what keeps a sanitary sewer connection watertight and code-compliant.

This is the kind of work our core drilling crews do regularly. Confined spaces, deep walls, extended reach setups - we bring the equipment and the experience to get it done right the first time.
